A Radio Gravitational Lens

One good gravitational lens deserves another, and in this case it’s a radio frequency gravitational lens. I reported earlier on this blog about a visible light gravitational lens, and now read that yesterday, astronomers of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) announced their use of a gravitational lens in radio waves which allowed them to analyze an even more distant galaxy. The distant galaxy is estimated at about 12 billion light years distant. That would mean that we are seeing the galaxy as it was forming, very early on in the lifetime of our universe.
