Astronomers Image Companion of Sun-like Star
About 50 light years distant from our own Sun is a star called GJ 758. Astronomers categorize this star as a G9-type star. That means that its surface temperature is a little cooler than our own Sun, which is G2-type star with a surface temperature of 5800 Kelvin. It turns out that GJ 758 has at least one companion (there is evidence of a second), a massive gas giant between 10 and 40 times the mass of Jupiter, perhaps making it a brown dwarf. This extrasolar planet, or exoplanet, is about 29 AU out from GJ 758 about the distance that Neptune or Pluto are from our Sun.
