ESA Awards Contract for Student-Led Mission to Moon
The European Space Agency (ESA) announced on Friday that it would be awarding a contract to Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd of the UK for the development of a mission to the Moon. What is unique about this mission is that “unlike a typical space project, each spacecraft subsystem, payload and ground segment element is being designed, built and operated by groups of university students based in ESA Member States or Cooperating States.” Learn more about this unique lunar mission online now here. The spacecraft is expected to be launched in late 2013 or early 2014.
