Is a Supernova Linkable to Climate Change?

In a paper to appear in Space Exploration Research, available as a pre-print online now here, Oliver Manuel and Hilton Ratcliffe speculate on how they can link the “fingerprints of a local supernova” to the solar magnetic cycles, including sunspot cycles, and “major climate changes.” The authors assume that our Sun actually formed on a supernova remnant, which is not exactly the standard view.
