More Massive Black Holes in Galactic Cores Discovered with HST

A team of astronomers have used the Hubble Space Telescope instruments to estimate the mass of black holes in the center of five galaxies. The galaxies studied were NGC 3585, NGC 3607, NGC 4026, NGC 5576 and NGC 3945. With one exception, the black holes in the core of all these galaxies were determined to have masses between 100 million and 300 million times the mass of the Sun. NGC 3945 was anomalous with a central black hole mass of only 9 million times the mass of the Sun.
